When I was first assigned to set up a Wix account and page in the Fall of 2023, I was a bit confused as creating a webspace to promote myself is not an idea I would have considered. Thankfully, the creation of the personal site was well documented by Wix and they provide excellent tools for how to choose a layout and adding pages. When reviewing the webpage again this semester I have made a few adjustments, such as changing the color lay out and taking the time to update my resume. I still only have my LinkedIn available as I keep all other social media presence extremely privatized.
The most difficult part of the process was learning how to add documents to the headers and also how to link the pages for About Me and the Resume to the buttons on the pages. This step I had to request assistance from other classmates on if they had figured out how to add materials to the site. Luckily with our collaborations we were able to figure out what steps were needed to create eye-catching websites.
Being an older student, I have spent time reviewing my online presence and ensuring that the appearance I want to present is aligned with what my actual online presence is. I am unsure about the Wix page in regards to my professional presence, but am open to how it could be used to promote myself professionally. As previously stated, I tend to keep my social media presence private, and this is a choice I made after some professional incidents where other peoples social media presences were a business liability, prompting myself to ensure that my personal, religious or political beliefs were not subject to public scrutiny. These opinions have changed as social media has grown during the time, I have been an adult, from the creation of Myspace and even when Facebook was a college only website. My usage of social media has dwindled to keeping up with friends and posting pictures of my pets and hobbies, and less about anything deeply personal or something that could potentially be misconstrued.
I don’t currently have any questions regarding the ePortfolio project, I feel encouraged to see what the potential of the collected works towards my own feelings of accomplishment and how these may help promote myself professionally.
