It is pleasantly surprising to see how many resources for career and professionalization are available to students, alumni, and faculty with ODU. In this post, the three options will be summarized for their functionality. First, the Center for Career and Leadership Development has options for students, employers, faculty & staff, and finally alumni. I selected to review the opportunities available in the student section, which provides career coaching and skill development exploration for undergraduate and graduate students. Second, the Monarch Internship and Co-Op is a functionality that provides opportunities for internships, resources, and engagement events connected to career training. Finally, the Career Pathways service is available to provide professional development for graduate school success.

I honestly wish I were more aware of these services when I was in my undergraduate program. While I am currently employed, the career development options available are non-existent unless you are an active field member, so the option to have career development through my university is immensely important. Now that I am in my graduate program. I am looking forward to utilizing the Center for Career and Leadership Development, especially as I embrace my goals for continuing my education onward towards a Ph.D. in Instructional Design. The options in career coaching and job search I feel will be most beneficial to me as I understand my new potential for employment with my education, instead of viewing myself as less desirable due to previous ill conceived personal notions. I currently have bookmarked the action plan for graduate students and plan to review the sections accordingly.

Before I graduate with my MA, I would like to utilize the Action Plan for Graduate Students to its fullest potential. I love the breakdown based on months in the program, and I would like to have my professional appearance completed prior to graduation. As I embrace what it is that I truly would like to accomplish in my professional career, I would like to have mentors and an action plan in place. I am still open to the industry I would like to land in, because my goal is to use the idea of lifespan communication to enhance how education (either through a university or through a corporation) on how to best disseminate information to all parties.
